About the programme

  •  This is an optional part of the programme. LLU will support you, the participant, in finding the right professional qualification. Participants will have the option of three training pathways: any National Society NPQ, the Flourishing Leadership programme, and Aspiring Heads. LLU will fund your participation in your chosen training pathway, and the team will guide and track your progress throughout your training.

  • This is an optional part of the programme. Participants have the opportunity to shadow a CEO, headteacher and senior leaders – depending on their professional needs - in an alternative setting for up to a week. This is so that you can experience headship first-hand and delve into tasks that require both operational and strategic thinking. During the shadowing, you will have access to explore aspects such as school culture, ethos and values, key documents, systems, policies and processes, self-evaluation and development plans, curriculum and CPD, strategies for SEND and disadvantaged learners, governance, community partnerships, and more.

  • This is a mandatory part of the programme. You will be offered a mentor who will be a primary school headteacher, a secondary school headteacher, or a deputy headteacher. The mentors are experienced leaders and provide peer support for one another throughout the programme via a series of carefully scheduled “drop-in” sessions.

  • This is a mandatory part of the programme. There are ten network sessions spread across the 18-month programme. The network session comprises two in-person and eight virtual events. The network session enables you to develop long-lasting professional relationships and establish a support network that endures long after the programme has ended.

Through the tailored mentoring, training and networking I managed to secure two acting headships, whilst engaging on the course. LLU enabled me to courageously show up as my authentic self. As a black leader, I appreciated the support of those associated with LLU because they understood the barriers and pressures that black senior leaders face within our schools."
