Inclusion: Racial Justice & EDIJ
We are committed to seeing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice firmly embedded within our education system. Key aspects of this work include recruitment and retention through identifying and training future school and system leaders; theological underpinning of the curriculum; data collection, analysis, and evaluation; and providing resources, training, and networks for school and system leaders.
Theology of EDIJ document
The Theological Underpinning of the curriculum framework develops an understanding of the biblical roots of racial justice, from EYFS to KS3. Using key theological concepts already taught in Church of England schools, this enables progression through the phases. The framework is a response to From Lament to Action and has been developed with feedback from the Church of England's Racial Justice Taskforce.
EDIJ Collective worship resources
The NSE has produced collective worship resources for primary and secondary schools on a range of themes relating to EDIJ. These are freely available for schools to use throughout the year, and are regularly updated.
Behaviour and exclusions
The NSE is working with a range of partners, to address inequalities in the proportions of pupils from GMH, GRT and disadvantaged backgrounds being excluded from school. In 2025-26, the NSE is working with Church school leaders on the Inclusive Leadership programme and utilising research from the Institute for Equity.
Introduction to Racial Justice Course
The NSE’s Introduction to Racial Justice Course is currently in the pilot stage with dioceses and will be available more widely from September 2026. The intention is to support school leaders to begin their learning about the importance of Racial Justice, and how they can implement racial justice within their own context.
